I got everything locked off, stripped down, and replaced the chain. BMW did introduce a modified tensioner which helps if fitted early enough. Timing chain done under a non-BMW warranty which came with the car and has resolved the noise. My mistake timing chain is different to cam belt. The car was towed to a nearby independent garage. A weakish timing chain, extended service intervals, wrong spec oil/cheap filters. Well done for diying it.
